Music Lessons (Age: 3 and older)

Music lessons are provided by our Registered Music Therapist, Laura Schaefer. These lessons are beneficial because they enhance cognitive awareness, improve fine motor skills, increase social and individual functioning and build self confidence.
 

The class provides a non-threatening environment for an individual to express themselves. Methods used will include piano and keyboards, drums, recorded music, and art. Participants will enjoy learning new ways to be creative and have fun at the same time.

Apollo Music School (Age: All ages)

FVSRA is excited to introduce you to the Apollo Music School. All abilities are welcome to take private music lessons from their staff of qualified and experienced teachers. Whether you are just starting, or have played before, Apollo Music School can help get you to the next level. Individuals will practice hand eye coordination, fine motor skills, and learn or improve their ability to read music.

1. Each participant receives six 30-minute individual lessons. Dates and times will be set based on the individual and instructor availability.

3. Choose from the following specialties: Drums, Clarinet, Trombone, Trumpet, Violin, Viola, Cello, Flute, Voice or Piano

Semi Private Drumming I (Age: 3-18 years)

You will be using drums, bongos, shakers and more to explore different rhythms, instruments, and sounds to achieve goals such as improving communication, expression, and coordination. Don’t miss on this chance to learn something new while having fun!

Semi Private Drumming II (Age: 19 and older)

Through drumming participants can improve self-expression, spatial awareness and self-esteem. This class will allow you to express yourself in a non-threatening manner. Drumming includes a variety of drums ranging from a shaker to a bongo. Don’t miss out on this chance to learn something new while having fun. Drums and instruments will be provided

Computer Lessons (Age: 13 and older)

Enhance your computer skills by taking computer lessons! We will help you with Microsoft Office Suite, internet usage, and keyboarding skills ONLY. Each lesson will be tailored to meet your specific goals. Improve your typing skills, master the mouse or improve navigation on the Internet! (6 weeks)

Open Computer Lab (Age: 13 and older)

Surf the World Wide Web! The FVSRA Computer Lab has Windows workstations and high-speed internet access for email, research, news and general use. The lab contains common software applications used for word processing, spreadsheets, publishing, and presentations. Participants should bring their punch card to each session. Participants will be allowed a maximum of 30 minutes each week.

One staff member will be available look up, create, and reset email username/password, assist with logging into the lab stations, provide assistance in using MS Office, and other applications, and answer common questions.

Personal Training (Age: 14 and older)

Get fit under the guidance of FVSRA’s personal trainers. Six one-on-one sessions will be scheduled between you and the trainer. These individualized sessions will work on your specific health and fitness goals. Whether you are looking to increase strength, increase flexibility, lose a little weight or learn the proper lifting techniques we’ve got what you’re looking for! (6 weeks)

Geneva Fitness Club (Age: 19 and older)

Are you looking to become independent in the fitness center? Do you need just a little motivation and direction during your workout? Join your fitness friends at the Sunset Community Center for an hour of guided exercise by a certified personal trainer. The goal of the program is to increase strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance, and learn proper lifting techniques.

VAC Pass (Age: Varies)

Increase your fitness level by joining the Vaughan Athletic Center! An enrollment in the “VAC PASS” Membership by a person with a disability provides the opportunity for his or her family member to purchase an All-Inclusive “VAC PASS” membership to the Vaughan Athletic Center through the FVSRA office. Membership options are below. Memberships can be purchased during each Summer, Fall and Winter/Spring program seasons. Membership dues for the entire season must be paid in full at the beginning of each season. This membership includes access to the fitness center (for participants 16 years and older or 14 years and older if accompanied by an adult), two walking tracks, three pools, four field courts and a member rate for court time at the nine tennis courts. Adults 18 and older may purchase an upgraded locker room membership for $30 a month. This upgraded locker room includes; a sauna, a steam room, towel service, shampoo/conditioner, blow dryers, etc. Schedule an appointment with Alex Redenius for a free orientation of the fitness center prior to enrolling in the program. Independence in the fitness center or adult supervision is required to obtain a membership. Please wear appropriate workout attire: closed toed tennis shoes, t-shirt, NO JEANS IN THE FITNESS CENTER, supportive undergarments, etc. No sign up fee… no full year commitment… what do you have to lose except a few pounds?! Please allow 2-3 business days for processing before utilizing the Vaughan Athletic Center.

Swim Lessons (Age: 3 and older)

Learn safety skills, gain confidence in and around the water, and develop gross motor skills while learning to swim. Our instructors have experience working with people who have a variety of needs and want to work with you to improve your water skills. Each lesson will last 30 minutes.
