Aktion Club

“To serve the community and develop initiative and leadership skills.”

Join the over 30 members of the growing group and help serve the community. The Aktion Club is an international program supported by the 600,000 members of Kiwanis International. This Club was the first in the state of Illinois and now other groups have followed in their footsteps. The Aurora Kiwanis and FVSRA cosponsor this organization. Aktion Club members will participate in bimonthly meetings, one being a business meeting and the second being a community service project.

Assisted Horseback Riding

This new and exciting program will introduce participants to horses, the basics of horseback riding, and the benefits of riding. A 1:1 staff ratio will be provided. Horseback riding gently and rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait. Riders with physical disabilities often show improvement in flexibility, balance and muscle strength. The unique relationship formed with the horse can lead to increased confidence, patience and self-esteem. Please note this is not a therapeutic riding program, but the benefits received from the program are therapeutic in nature. (6 weeks)

Bleacher Bums

Cheer on local high school teams with your FVSRA friends. We will attend hockey, volleyball, soccer and baseball games. The louder we cheer the better they play. During this program, there will be plenty of socialization opportunities.

Cinema Cruisers Central

Enjoy the company of good friends while relaxing and watching the latest new releases on the big screen. The goal of this program is to practice daily living skills such as money handling, etiquette, and social awareness. (4 sessions)

Cinema Cruisers North

Enjoy the company of good friends while relaxing and watching the latest new releases on the big screen. The goal of this program is to practice daily living skills such as money handling, etiquette, and social awareness. (4 sessions)

Cinema Cruisers South

Enjoy the company of good friends while relaxing and watching the latest new releases on the big screen. The goal of this program is to practice daily living skills such as money handling, etiquette, and social awareness. (4 sessions)

Cooking Connection

Learn some kitchen basics. You will chop, measure, and stir your way to a variety of healthy dishes. Work on your independence in the kitchen while socializing and working as a team. Each week participants will enjoy the recipes they created for dinner. The goal of this program is to develop independent cooking skills. (6 weeks)

Crafty Cookers

Participants will work on basic cooking skills and proper table etiquette. Each week par¬ticipants will prepare a basic recipe, socialize with peers, and assist with clean-up. The program is designed to meet the needs of children with Sensory Processing Disorders, coping with over-stimulation, under-stimulation and hyper-activity. Visuals such as picture icons or Boardmaker will be used during this program to help prompt participation and reach their full potential. (8 weeks)

Culinary Creations

Calling all experienced cooks! FVSRA has joined kitchens with a renowned chef to teach you the ins and outs of the kitchen and more advanced dishes. The goal of this program is to build your independence by taking your culinary skills to the next level. Each week you will prepare and enjoy a different meal. (4 weeks)

Explore Your Senses

Through fun interactive games and activities this program will stimulate all of your child’s senses and improve concentration, social skills, and cooperation. The program is designed to meet the needs of children with Sensory Processing Disorders, coping with over-stimulation, under-stimulation and hyperactivity. Visuals such as picture icons or Boardmaker will be used during this program to help prompt participation and reach their full potential.

Indoor Golf Skills

Although we can’t be outside, we can still play the beloved sport of golf at the Vaughan Athletic Center! The goal of the program is to learn a basic golf swing, and learn proper golf etiquette.

Krafty Kids

Participants will challenge their imagination by using a blend of art and craft materials during structured free time to allow creativ¬ity to flow. Materials that will be used in this program are Playdough, shaving cream, chalk and various stencils. The goal of this program is to improve fine motor skills, and to demonstrate creative self expression. (8 weeks)

Martial Arts

Participants will learn traditional martial arts including blocking, kicking, punching, and self control. These activities can help release tension and increase focus. Other goals are to increase balance, strength, flexibility, and improve coordination and concentration. (7 weeks)

Movie Club

Save money by watching movies on the big screen at FVSRA! Popcorn and juice will be provided or you can bring your own favorite snack. The goal of this program is to practice appropriate behavior in a movie theater setting. (3 sessions)

P.E. For Me

Participants will work on their gross motor skills and appropriate peer interaction through popular group games and sports such as kickball, basketball, softball. The goal of the program is to learn the basic skills of different active games and sports, to follow step by step directions, and improve interaction with peers. (8 weeks)

Playground Crashers

Get the wiggles out and expend some energy while playing on several different community playgrounds. The goal of this program is to improve gross motor skills, social interaction, cooperative play, and gain basic knowledge of various playground games. (8 weeks)

Re-Connect With Nature

Be one with nature! Enjoy the outdoors through creating natural crafts, walking area trails, sledding, hiking and playing outdoor games while learning about the history of the communities we live in. The goal of this program is to learn how to respect nature, work on creativity, physical activity, motor skills and socialization. (8 weeks)

Rollin' the Night Away

Visit Funway for a night of roller skating. The goal of this program is to socialize with friends, learn a new skill and get some exercise. (4 weeks)

School's Out

School’s Out! Spend the day with friends while participating in fun activities. We will go on field trips, swim and explore our community. The goal of this program is to increase socialization skills. We will meet at the VAC before departing.

Skills and Drills - Sports

If you’re looking to try a new sport without the pressure of competition, then Skills and Drills is for you! The goal of the program is to practice the basic fundamentals, learn the rules of each sport through increased repetition.

Skills and Drills - Swim

Can’t wait until the swim team season starts next year? Join one of our swim instructors in a small group setting to stay in shape, perfect your swim stroke, and work on improving your times for the next Special Olympic Swim Season. This program compliments the Special Olympics Swim Team.

Spectacular Saturday's

This program is intended for participants who enjoy a more mature Saturday pro¬gram. Be ready to go on a few hikes, explore the surrounding communities, go on field trips and learn a few new games. As always the day will end with a relaxing swim in the pool. The goal of this program is to establish a sense of creativity, increase lifelong leisure activities/skills, gain awareness of water safety rules and gain ability to initiate appropriate peer interaction.

Splash and Play

Got the winter blues? Forget all about it and jump in the water at the Vaughan Athletic Center leisure pool where you can zoom down two slides, splash around the obstacle course while socializing with your friends. The goal of this program is to increase socialization and physical fitness.

Star Search Practice

Looking for a chance to show off your many talents? Bring your singing and dancing skills, comedy routines, and your magic tricks to the Star Search Practices. The practices will help you prepare for the Star Search Talent Show on May 21st. The goal of this program is to allow everyone to express themselves as individuals as they show off their talents.

Teen Bowl

Bowling is a leisure sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Join your FVSRA friends on Saturdays to socialize and develop your bowling skills. Bowlers will play two games each week to work on their form, approach, and release. (10 weeks)

Teen Spring Break Mini Camp

Take a break from school to socialize with new and old friends. Spring Break Mini Camp gives you a chance to show your athletic side, inspire your creativity and explore your sense of adventure. We will play sports and games, create arts and crafts, dive deep into swimming and venture into the community for field trips including movies, bowling and visiting neighborhood playgrounds! (4 days)

Treasure Hunt Hikers

The goal of the program is to get out into our community and learn more about local areas while still getting a little work out. We will adventure through nature centers, visit local parks and stroll a few river walks. A scavenger hunt will be incorporated into each of the community outings. (4 weeks)

Walking Club North

Stay fit this winter by moving your fall workout indoors. You will walk twice a week for an hour and track your steps. Socialize with friends while boosting your cardiovascular system at the same time. The goal of this program is to participate in a low impact workout while increasing overall health and wellness.

Walking Club South

Stay fit this winter by moving your fall workout indoors. You will walk twice a week for an hour and track your steps. Socialize with friends while boosting your cardiovascular system at the same time. The goal of this program is to participate in a low impact workout while increasing overall health and wellness.

Water Aerobics

Make a splash with this mid week water workout! Whether you’re an early bird or enjoy sleeping in we’ve got the class to ensure you get a great workout. The morning session will be at the Keeler Center Pool and will be a great way to start your work day. The afternoon session will be our traditional class in the heated therapy pool at the Vaughan Athletic Center. The goal of this program is to improve muscle tone, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance while socializing with your friends. This program is ideal for those who would like a great workout without the wear and tear on their joints.

Yoga

In this yoga program you will work on your basic yoga postures to improve strength, flexibility, balance and relaxation. The goal of this program is to increase strength, flexibility, improve balance and ability to relax.
