Scholarship & Financial Assistance Opportunities with FVSRA
At Fox Valley Special Recreation Association (FVSRA), we believe that everyone should have access to the enriching programs and services we offer, regardless of financial circumstances. In line with our mission to ensure inclusivity, we’ve created a scholarship program to support individuals and families facing financial hardships. These scholarships help reduce the cost of participating in our recreational programs, making it easier for anyone to be a part of a fun, active community.
We offer three types of scholarships to meet different needs. Please read below to learn the requirements and apply for the one that best fits you or your family.

FVSRA Program Scholarship
It is the policy of the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association (FVSRA) that every FVSRA resident should have the opportunity to participate in FVSRA services.
Based on the availability of funds, FVSRA has developed a comprehensive program to assist individuals and/or families who are experiencing a financial hardship. The scholarship program is designed to provide a subsidy to fees for participation in recreation programs offered by FVSRA. FVSRA reserves the right to approve or deny an applicant’s request. The FVSRA Scholarship Policy shall be reviewed on an annual basis and is subject to change without notice.
In order to qualify for the Program Scholarship, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Participant must reside within the boundaries of the FVSRA Member Agencies.
- A participant may be eligible for financial assistance if they are receiving public aid from Social Security Income (SSI), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) through IL Link, Illinois All Kids (CHIPRA), YouthCare Health Plan through DCFS, or display other financial need.

Eric “Big E” Ream Memorial Scholarship
Eric Ream was a talented athlete who participated in many athletic programs such as softball, volleyball, golf, basketball, snowshoeing, swimming, track, and bowling. He is remembered at FVSRA for his contagious smile, infectious laugh, and kindness to his peers and fellow athletes. While Eric passed away in 2014, his legacy will live on through supporting other individuals to live a full and active life as he did.
The purpose of The Eric Reams “Big E” scholarship is to award scholarship money to individuals with disabilities who may otherwise not be able to fully participate in FVSRA athletic and therapeutic recreation programs due to financial restrictions. Participation in athletics provides holistic benefits that contribute to an individual’s physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being; something to which everyone should have access.
In order to qualify for the Eric “Big E” Ream Memorial Scholarship, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Utilization: The scholarship and stipends can be used for athletic-related expenses like program costs, uniforms, equipment, or expenses related to traveling to programs and competitions for the participant or guardians.
- Applicant Type: Individuals of all abilities and all ages may apply.
- Residency Restriction: Eligible to both resident and non-residents of FVSRA
- Athletic Involvement: Must have active participation in athletics programs with FVSRA
- Award Amounts: Participants may be eligible to up to $500 annually. Most awards will be between 40-80% of program registration fees.
- Term: “Annually” refers to the three program seasons within the calendar year: Winter/Spring, Summer, and Fall regardless of the dates of registration. The funds are likely to be spread out throughout all three program seasons.

FVSRF Hardship Grant
The Fox Valley Special Recreation Foundation (FVSRF) is committed to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of financial circumstances, have access to our programs and services.
Recognizing that unforeseen hardships and emergencies can pose significant barriers to participation, FVSRF is dedicated to providing hardship grants for program fees and for emergency situations to those in need.
In order to qualify for the Hardship Grant, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Current participants enrolled in at least one FVSRA program or activity during the last twelve months.
- Resident of one of our Member Entities
- AIF completed and on file for the current calendar year.
- Demonstrated need based on situation
- Completed Hardship Grant application form
